Vintage black Japanese ginger jar
Lovely Japanese ginger jar, presented in a deep, dark glossy black glaze, across the front large, blooming iris spring from stalky leaves. The blooming flowers are in a blushy, peach with champagne accents and rest among light blue leaves, a bird sits perched on a stem. The design repeats itself on the lid. Classic ginger jar shape. That narrows at the base and white ends at the shoulders, topped with a lid that has a teardrop shaped knob. Pretty piece to add into a collection, or for a pop of black on a bookshelf.
8 inches tall by 5 inches in diameter across the shoulder of the ginger jar
Nice condition, no cracks, no chips. There is loss of gold paint along the rim of the ginger jar likely from handling. There are imperfections that occurred at the time that the jar was made, including some over painting and some uneven glazing. We found two small spots where the glaze didn’t evenly cover, revealing two small, white dots of ceramic. We also found a spot on the glaze that has a bit of extra clay under the glaze.
